After months of preparation, Hong Kong Contemporary will be opening its doors this Friday. Following the private opening reception in the afternoon, VIP guests will be encouraged to tour the various exhibitions on the 8th and 9th floor of the Park Lane Hotel. Gallery owners have created unique sensorial experiences in the hotel room exhibition spaces. The gallery representatives have devoted time to create exhibitions that offer a glimpse of the artistic cultures they are dynamically involved in abroad and here in Hong Kong. The trends include bold colors, layered shapes, and imaginative simplicity.

Even before our formal opening kicks off, it is obvious that our business model is getting rave reviews. Our viral marketing campaign and the overwhelming support from both local and overseas media reports illustrates how influential Hong Kong Contemporary is in its debut year! Many other homegrown art fairs are trying their hand at hotel room exhibiting as a way to bring people together and share an intimate yet casual viewing of the latest art trends. This week demonstrates the vibrant development of the arts in Hong Kong and we are proud that our efforts have been recognized so strongly!

DKNY JEANS is giving Hong Kong Contemporary audience a private preview of their Fall 2012 collection for this year’s premiere. Inside their room also showcasing 3 of the Korean actor and painter, Ha Jung Woo's paintings on an unconventional canvas, DKNY JEANS. The blend of fashion and visual art is the result of a special series Ha Jung Woo has created exclusively for Hong Kong Contemporary in collaboration with DKNY JEANS. His paintings are full of personality and portraits representing his encounters here in Hong Kong. Come have a look and prepare to be impressed!

All the public votes have been counted, and now we await the result of what the jury panelists consider the most impressive artwork for this year’s awards. Five finalists were chosen to represent local artists in the competition via Facebook voting. Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards will be presented this Sunday in the 28th Floor function room of the Park Lane Hotel at 2 PM-just prior to the much anticipated Hong Kong Contemporary Auction! All VIP guests are invited to a Docent tour that will be held on Saturday May 19th from 4-5PM. The meeting point is in the hotel Lobby at 3:50PM. Ms. Georgina Sandercock will be providing the tour for our esteemed guests. She has a wealth of experience in docent programs at various museums as well as private galleries; we are confident that guests of all backgrounds will have a great time! The Hong Kong Contemporary team is proud to announce that Paris Moon, Manager of Hong Kong Contemporary, was awarded Best Outstanding Achievement in the Arts and Arts development in Overseas by the Korean Women's International Foundation.
